This week in the comments
One topic ate the week: the pre-order announcement set off a wave of comments about physical media, well ahead of the game itself. The tone is more campaign than hype, with "No disc, no buy" as the refrain.
"No disc, no buy": the disc story swallows everything
Roughly 55% of this week's comments are about discs, physical copies or 2028, often emoji-spammed. Many pledge to buy physical, others threaten to skip the PS6. Commenters say Sony plans to end discs in 2028.
Pre-order = "rental"?
About 10% of comments mock the idea of pre-ordering a license you don't own ("pre-order your rental"). Many call pre-orders pointless for a digital game; some also find the price too high.
The cube and the "laundry" jokes linger
About 10% still mock the talking cube and the laundry puns, or compare the game to Wolverine or Forspoken. Familiar territory, but far less massive than in June.
A loyal core holds its ground
About 8% remain upbeat: fluid combat, Faye's fighting style, day-one plans. Several defend the game against the surrounding negativity, often adding they'll buy physical.
Top reactions and controversies
Double jump and air combos: the founding meme
Dominant takeSince the reveal, the community has turned "she fought beautifully" into a running gag: Kratos supposedly gave Faye his double jump. Fluid combat also earns sincere praise, with nostalgia for the Greek trilogy.
Faye instead of Kratos: rightful lead or "woke"?
ControversyThe loudest debate, especially in P3: some recall Faye fought Thor and Kratos to a standstill, others reject a God of War without Kratos. The thread quickly slides into culture-war territory.
"2018: Boy, 2026: Cube"
Dominant takeThe talking gelatinous cube, voiced by Jack Quaid per commenters, became a joke factory, mostly via "Oi Hughie" riffs. Reception is mostly amused, with a minority finding it annoying or too "Marvel humor".
The afterlife of the gods: will the Greeks return?
Dominant takeLots of theorycrafting: an afterlife mixing several pantheons (Sekhmet, Begtse) hints at a possible return of Athena, Zeus or Ares. Commenters also tie scenes to Alfheim's light and the 2018 horn.
Writing, humor and Faye's face
ControversySome fault a "Marvel" tone, contested writing and a Faye face they say strays from the actress. Others reply she reads as a believable middle-aged woman and call the attacks overblown.
